Gaia:Growing up with a parent who struggles with an addiction is necessarily an important childhood experience, one that will affect the child’s future. Despite the diversity of possible situations, certain constants, such as the feeling of shame, parentification, the transformation of the parent under the effect of products and the sensory registration of anxiety, are found almost systematically. Understanding these specificities enables us to implement preventive measures, by offering to receive children in the parent’s care center to explain the disease and care, and to answer any questions they may have. Support for parenthood is another essential aspect of prevention. This attention tends to respond to, or even alleviate, the characteristic difficulties of this experience, and thus helps to reduce the risk of addiction being passed on to the family.
