| Achoimre: | Nicolas Abraham and Maria Torok’s contributions in psychoanalytic family therapy: transgenerational and phantom effects.” Nicolas Abraham and Maria Torok are precursors of a theorization, specific to the transmission of violent, shameful and unmentionable traumas. Their conceptual discoveries are of undeniable interest to contemporary psychoanalytic clinic and PFT. Long rejected by the psychoanalytic establishment, their work was dismissed despite having introduced significant key concepts such as the crypt, transgenerationnal influences, haunting, and phantom effects. They have put forward empathetic clinical listening during treatment, giving an important place to the analyst’s own countertransferential experiences. Through two clinical cases – an individual analysis and a psychoanalytic family therapy – the authors of the article rehabilitate some essential contributions to understanding violent traumas that have not been overcome from generation to generation. |
