Sammanfattning:French legislation currently recommends that children from the same family placed in foster care should be kept together. However, while the sibling bond is a resource for most children in care, in some cases it may undermine them. The aim of the present discussion is to explore the issues surrounding fraternal relationships in joint placements, starting with a description of fraternal relationships in that context. A psychoanalytical approach then leads on to exploring the psychological processes involved in the construction of the sibling bond, which in turn provides insights into how intra-sibling violence can develop in certain circumstances. The aim is to identify the warning signs that can lead child protection professionals, in certain cases, to prefer separating the children on a day-to-day basis, while at the same time providing the conditions necessary to maintain the bond.
