Riassunto:Abstract: In 179 AD. an inscription is engraved by Valerius Valens, a roman centurion of Dalmatia, which gives evidence of a condemnation in a judicial case before the governor of the province. This 27 words long testimony gives us a lot of clues in the case and the way it was brought before the judge. What was the crime of the centurion? What was the sentence issued? How was he prosecuted? Those questions can be answered thanks to a comparative analysis with juridical and technical material which provide context and proper evidence to understand this inscription.
