Izvleček:At the dawn of the 2000s, a new model for understanding mourning emerged, proposing to think in terms of Continuing Bonds with the deceased, rather than their severance, the then-dominant proposition conveyed by the Freudian model of “mourning work”. This new model is largely based on the observation of funeral rituals, whether experienced by the researcher, invented by a discussion group or prescribed according to the social norms in force in a given society. The following are some of the milestones of this work, which has contributed to our knowledge of both mourning and funeral rituals, and has sometimes inspired therapeutic approaches.
