| Crynodeb: | In his acceptance speech delivered upon receiving his honorary degree from Lyon Catholic University, Thomas Römer focuses on the debates between “biblical” archeology and “historico-critical” literary research, which have long been marked by mutual distrust and reciprocal ignorance. However, it is necessary to harmoniously combine scientific studies of the Bible and scientific archaeological research. It is also desirable for archaeologists excavating in the “Holy Land” to be aware of the historical theories of the biblical sciences, and vice versa. Moreover, the two disciplines have similar methods: the results of stratigraphic or diachronic analyzes must be placed in a historical reconstruction, even if this will always remain hypothetical and will need to be perfected, or even modified, in the light of new discoveries.
