| Yhteenveto: | At a time in history when the map of the world is becoming increasingly divided between authoritarian regimes and democracies, and when environmental issues are gaining in importance, the relationship between political regimes and the management of natural resources deserves to be explored. This article looks at the subject from the angle of water and arable land. This choice is all the more pertinent given the scarcity of these resources in the Mediterranean and Near East, which makes them all the more interesting. Firstly, it shows that land and water policies are very different depending on the nature of the regime, bearing in mind that ideology also plays a major role, which makes the approach more complex. It goes on to highlight the fact that the more authoritarian the regime, the more likely it is that these resources will fall victim to predation. Finally, the article takes a comparative approach and looks at the long term, in order to identify the inherent features of different political regimes in terms of water and land management. |
