Izvleček:Shortly after the fall of Kabul, the significant role of corruption in the collapse of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan became very popular. Meanwhile, in previous years, corruption was not considered a fatal threat to the viability of the Afghan State. On the contrary, it was widely acknowledged that corruption saved the country from the falling apart of different regional entities. Investigating how corruption contributed to the return of the Taliban could be a lesson-learner case for other developing and fragile systems to avoid the same consequences. The disintegration process of the Afghan State due to corruption did not occur during the last years, and it requires more extensive analysis to see the fundamental mistakes in the State-rebuilding processes. This article explains how the corrupt Afghan political system eroded public trust and undermined the morale of the armed forces, ultimately leaving the Afghan State vulnerable to the Taliban.
