| Riassunto: | In this article, I will reflect on my twenty years of fieldwork in North-Western Argentina as an ethnographer-photographer. I will describe how my practice as a photographer facilitated my integration in different environments I wanted to research. It allowed me to get involved on a long-term basis by means of these images which, over time and thanks to the feedback I received, became witnesses to different eras. I will show how I was able to use the images as a way to illustrate my written texts, but also as a tool in my investigations themselves. These photographs are also revealing in relation to the viewpoint of the ethnographer-photographer in the field. I will also retrace my itinerary and my immersion within the real-life situations I explored. Nonetheless, the core focus of the article will be to describe the relations with my hosts which, thanks to these images, I was able to develop and maintain over the course of my repeated visits to these villages throughout the course of my twenty years of fieldwork. |
