| 总结: | Island traditions and the laws of the French RepublicThe vendetta according to MériméeBased on two famous short stories by Prosper Mérimée: Mateo Falcone (1829) and Colomba (1840), this article shows what sets a largely imaginary tale of vendetta apart from another that is closer to historical reality. In the period between these two stories, Mérimée came face to face with the reality of the Corsican soul during a study trip as an inspector of historical monuments. The description of an expeditious and violent form of justice is followed, in Colomba, by a more nuanced analysis in which customary tradition meets the culture of continental law. |
