सारांश:The Commission for Recognition and Redress: an experiment in restorative justiceFollowing a report published by the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church (CIASE) in October 2021, revealing a large number of victims in France since 1950 and the systemic nature of this abuse, two commissions were established by the Church of France: the Commission for Recognition and Redress (Commission reconnaissance et réparation – CRR) and the Independent National Commission for Recognition and Redress (Instance nationale indépendante de reconnaissance et de réparation – INIRR). These commissions have been tasked with listening to victims, and then recognising and providing redress for the wrongs done to these people, most of whom can no longer take legal action. They are experimenting with a new form of justice inspired by “restorative justice”, which could serve as an example in meeting the need for justice expressed by many victims of abuse committed outside the Church.
