Zusammenfassung:This article aims to offer a deeper interpretation of Hobbes's thinking on the often-noted singularity of his position on gender relations and its relationship to the political contract. Hobbes's understanding of marriage is both legal and anthropological: there is a direct link between the legal structure of marriage and the structure of emotional bonds between men and women in this type of relationship. This understanding allows us to rethink the political contract from the perspective of love, even if, ultimately, Hobbes' discourse shows that fear of men is needed to explain women's subjection through marriage.
