Shrnutí:The administrative history of Bohemia and Moravia in the 11th and 12th centuries revolves around the concept of castle organisation. According to this model, the power of the Přemyslid dukes was projected at the regional level through castles, which centralised religious, military and fiscal roles in a given area. These castles were the capitals of terriorial units called provinces. However, a reappraisal of the sources makes it apparent that such territorial units are poorly documented, and what little proof there is only comes from Bohemia. In Moravia, no castle province as an entity distinct from the duchies entrusted to members of the dynasty is mentioned, be it in literary or diplomatic sources. It seems therefore necessary to question whether the castle organisation was as systematic as it is usually presented, as it is to clearly differentiate the Bohemian case from the Moravian one.
