Περίληψη:The aim of this retrospective and cross-cultural French-Lebanese study is to explore : 1. the themes of depression and aggression on the 3BM and 8BM TAT cards in an adult population with borderline personality disorder (BPD); 2. the similarities and differences existing in the perception of latent themes and the use of defense mechanisms. Methods : Forty protocols of subjects aged eighteen to thirty-five, twenty French and twenty Lebanese, matched for age and socioeconomic status and diagnosed with BPD according to DSM-V criteria, were analyzed for the purpose of this study. Data processing was based on qualitative content analysis of the narratives collected and quantitative analysis including descriptive and comparative statistics. The results show similarities between the two populations in the perception and recognition of the latent content of the cards, emotional expression, and the use of avoidance, projection, and denial defense mechanisms. The differences concern the raw verbalizations and the use of certain defense mechanisms (isolation), which were significantly more frequent in the Lebanese population.
