| Resumo: | Editing also means producing errors, and the work of the editor is to try to avoid
creating them, or at least to catch them and correct them. But what a strange way of
correcting errors during printing when the faulty copies already containing them are
preserved. Such was the procedure of the editors, Rouillé and Bonhomme, of Trois
premiers livres de la « Métamorphose » d’Ovide, that appeared in Lyon in 1556. These
errors are those that today we are in pursuit of from one extant copy to another, and
they are non only revealing of the work procedures of the still youthful world of
printing, but they are also the stubborn witnesses of the fragility of the texts on which
we are now working. |
