Miêu tả
Tóm tắt:An examination of the reception of Eugénie Grandet since its publication reveals that readers are not happy with the novel’s ending. The aim of this article is to uncover the causes of this dissatisfaction within the text itself, by studying it first from a narrative and then from a generic perspective. It appears that it is above all from the generic point of view that this ending is seen as disruptive, since it fails to conform to most of the fictional and novelistic models available at the time. Although ideologically conservative, Eugénie Grandet’s ending is literarily revolutionary: this is probably the reason why it continues to remain problematic, as if retaining its transgressive character.
