Zusammenfassung:The study of the space of literature within the poetic work of Giorgos Kalozois, a contemporary Cypriot poet, reveals what his writing expresses and what his words do not convey. Above all, it says that the work is constructed around a network of temporalities. In the time of the kairos, the melancholic being is struck by vehemency (Σφοδρότης); in the time of the poem, the being forgets itself in the flood of the text; the subjective time of the “I” takes place inside the objective time of the world through the “he” freed from the “self,” allowing it to move among the various beings of his otherness. Moreover, the poet’s quest for reality and truth compels him to adopt a prosaic, pragmatic, and anti-aesthetic language that is not only close to the human conditions he criticizes, but also grounded in the very origins of his creative process. The allegorism that dominates the writing indicates that the figurative meaning is intrinsic to the work, for the things we name are different from what they truly are. In addition, the struggle against the real, which subjectivity prohibits, but which attracts and fascinates nonetheless, is the driving force behind the creation of the work. Finally, beyond the intrinsic reasons for the literary work to remain open, Kalozois’ work remains open not for the reader to enter, but because its language escorts a state of being inseparable from lived experience.
