Tóm tắt:Amand-Narcisse Masson de Saint-Amand, son of the first prefect of Eure, published Lettres d’un voyageur à l’embouchure de la Seine (Letters from a traveler at the Seine estuary) in 1828. At the age of thirty odd years, he was staying at the manor house of La Pommeraye (Berville-sur-Mer), which he had known since childhood. His main aim was to describe the left bank of the Seine, and he paid particular attention to the way the local people spoke, which he recorded in a notice about the Norman language. These data, which had never before attracted the attention of researchers, have been compiled and analyzed here. They will enhance our knowledge of the history of French and its regional varieties, as well as that of Norman dialects.
