| Summary: | The hegemonic power that the United States had acquired after the war also extended to agriculture and food. This is an area often overlooked when approaching the hegemonic cycle structured around US power. If this agricultural and food power could be challenged by the European Union in the years 2000-2010, the war in Ukraine is a manifestation of a broader challenge to this power. Since then, Russia has established itself as a leading agricultural power, while the US has had recurring trade deficits. This article looks back at a war that has brought to light the agricultural rivalries between the Western bloc and Russia. The balance of power in world capitalism also involves the issue of agriculture and food. |
