| Izvleček: | A sociological reflection on the phenomenon of "urban violence". It does so through a clarification of the terms governing what is often a rather confused debate, drawing on somewhat ill-defined notions. Building on the considerable volume of field-work undertaken in the various relegated neighbourhoods over the last fifteen years, and on some more recent research into hip-hop culture, the author seeks to understand certain types of violent behaviour by starting out from the meaning attributed to such behaviour by the actors themselves. The article is thus led to draw heavily on the notion of social representation, class representation being considered as one such representation among others. |
