Résumé:Rejecting Max Weber's Kulturpessimismus, Habermas believes in the possibility of restauring the original Enlightenment project, thanks to a form of rationality neglected by Weber as well as by the Frankfurt School: communicative reason. One can say that his greatest theoretical innovation was to introduce a dualist framework of reflection against the Weberian monism of Critical Theory. He will remain faithful to this dualism throughout his work, inspite of the reformulations and refinements of the dualist model.
