Summary:The main results of a Ph. D. upon forms of unfree labour are presented. Through concepts borrowed from the transaction costs analysis of Williamson, the Marxist analysis of accumulation and enclosures is revisited. Enforcement problems of the labour contract are examined. Mobility of dependant labour and the breaking of indenture labour (the exit issue) are seen as central for an anlysis of the birth and transformation of primitive accumulation. The role of the industrial reserve army in the capitalist accumulation is qualified. The categories of free and waged labour are replaced by the broader categories of dependant labour and constricted wage-labour which include enslaved, indentured labour, as well as contract labour in international migrations.
