| Shrnutí: | There is a well-known formulation of the essence of language in Marx’ and Engels’German Ideology according to which language is practical consciousness. The point has been an object to a large scale misunderstanding and false interpretation. The paper seeks to reconstruct Marx’original thought by demonstrationg that consciousness is conceptually and historically primary to both language and thought, and therefore there is nothing wrong or metaphoric in Marx’ statement. A hypothesis that "vocal consciousness" is the original form of consciousness is formulated as well as some remarks on modem ideas about the essence of language. |
