| Gaia: | Marxism is ecologically inadequate because of the deficiencies in its market theory and its theory of socialism. But there is no productivism at the theoretical core of Capital. It establishes a radical ecological criticism of capitalism (which calls for a similar criticism of the « actually existing socialisms »): the logic of profit is to externalize the costs and to ignore the demands of the natural environment as well as those of the social community, hence the « new social movements ». The « aristotelian » notion of labour-value is in harmony with a sound political theory and an ethical-ecological approach to the relationship between the human species and the planet. |
