| Tóm tắt: | Differing perspectives on Jewish-Muslim relations on the eve of the Algerian WarWhen the Algerian War began, the choice was clear for both the Europeans of Algeria and Algerian Muslims : for the former, the defence of French Algeria, and for the latter, the struggle for Algerian independence. Algerian Jews, for their part, struggled with hesitations and confusion, and, as a consequence, solitude. Ever since the Second World War, they could no longer have complete confidence in France, even if the the majority were still very attached to it. But neither could they have complete confidence in the Algerian nationalists, for fear of a return to their pre-French conquest position of dhimmi. Between these two nationalisms, Algerian Jews were not really able to find their place. How did they get to this point ? This is the question that the author explores, based above all on oral testimonies. |
