| Sažetak: | The reestablishment of the Lutheran cult in the three remaining Catholic parishes of Strasbourg in 1560 is an opportunity for a prosopographical reconstruction of the population of the city thanks to the transcriptions of wedding and baptism registers. Based upon these as well as several historians of late medieval and early modern Strasbourg, this paper analyses the sociological profile of the peripheral/intermediary parish of Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux (Sankt Peter Alt) through the examination of the new-born’s ca. 1,200 fathers and 1,800 godfathers between 1560 and 1580. The comparison between parish registers, as well as the registers of the new burghers, tends to determine the profile of the generation of the fathers through the criteria of their profession and access to citizenship. The phenomena of inter-parish mobility, the generational, geographical, professional and political differences between the fathers and godfathers are used to refine the already known concept of exo-godparenthood. The transmission of the familial or religious namestocks and the impact of the godfathers in the naming practices of the male children of the now officially fully-Protestant urban republic are the subject of our last part. |
