The present volume taps into the heretofore scarcely leveraged potential offered by a codicological and paleographic approach to reconstruct the history of this work s Greek manuscripts, as well as to examine their interrelationships. Over thirty detailed descriptions present many of these manuscripts for the first time, and also provide a number of illuminating insights about the history of the reception of Ptolemy s Geography Description : Obwohl sich die Geographie des Ptolemaios in den letzten Jahren reger Aufmerksamkeit in der Forschung erfreute, blieben die Kenntnisse ihrer Überlieferung lückenhaft und unbefriedigend. Im vorliegenden Buch wird deshalb das bisher kaum ausgeschöpfte Potenzial einer kodikologisch-paläographischen Untersuchung für die Rekonstruktion der Geschichte der griechischen Handschriften dieses Werkes und ihrer Bezüge untereinander nutzbar gemacht. In über dreißig Beschreibungen werden hier nicht nur mehrere Handschriften zum ersten Mal überhaupt näher vorgestellt, sondern auch zahlreiche neue Aufschlüsse über die Rezeptionsgeschichte der ptolemäischen Geographie erarbeitet |
