His Euagoras, an encomium of the Cypriot king Euagoras I, had a decisive influence on the establishment and development of the prose encomium. This volume presents the first modern edition and commentary of Isocrates` Euagoras. It offers a detailed introduction, the Greek text and an interpretational commentary. Die heutige Forschung findet allmählich einen neuen Zugang zu Isokrates, dem griechischen Redner des 4. Jh. v. Chr., der dem 19. und teilweise dem 20. Jh. aufgrund von platonischem Einfluss eher fremd geblieben war. Der isokratische Euagoras, ein Enkomion auf den kyprischen König Euagoras I., übte einen entscheidenden Einfluss bei der Etablierung und Entwicklung des Prosa-Enkomions aus. Die vorliegende Arbeit ist die erste moderne kommentierte Edition des isokratischen Euagoras. Das Buch bietet eine ausführliche Einleitung, den griechischen Text und einen interpretierenden Kommentar. |
