Descripció
Sumari:In "100 years of landscape architecture : some patterns of a century" historian Melanie Simo traces the development of the profession of landscape architecture from the founding of the American Society of Landscape Architecture in 1899. As she describes the controversies, concerns, and trends of the profession - particularly as evindenced in the awards program of the Society - Simo points out the various threads that come together to form the "figure in the carpet", the image of complex broad, and diverse profession at the end of the second millenium. Her history is complemented by the essays of thirteen ASLA Medal winners, some of the best known and most respected figures in the field including Garett Eckbo, John Lyle, and Ian McHarg. Many of these essays discuss the environmental concerns that have shaped the field in the last thirty years. The book includes more than one hundred photographs of some of the most famous projects of the century.
