| Resumo: | "After over a century of geological and mining studie the "bordure sous-cevenole" seemed, in 1950, to be a district particularly well adapted to the analysis of a metallogenic province since several mining centers for non-ferrous metals were thriving there, presenting the observer with precions fields of knowledge, i.e. the stope faces of the underground works as well as the cores of the drilling campaigns for general reconnaissance or for exploration. The examination of the sous-cevenole province was eIected according to the different scales of geological analysis: after surveying the regional knowledge already acquired, the author continues with the study on the scale of the mining claim and operations, thus offering mining geology observations as they have been put forth for the Iast ten years. The inventory of facts systematically realized, mining district after mining district, allows him to establish certain correlations linking the presence of mineralizations to some geological factors, whether regional or local, and especially : all the stratoïd deposits of the bordure sous-cevenole, that is almost all of them, from Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort to the Auzonnet valley, coincide either with gaps of sedimentation or with stratigraphie series of lesser thickness ; the structural corollary of this sedimentologic proposition is expressed by the simullaneneity of the impetus of the basement on a layered slab which settles down or hardens (lithification). The sheeted mineralizations were deposited prior to the Upper Jurassic and are transformed mecanically by the tertiary tectonics. The macroscopic and microscopic study of the ores and of the surrounding rocks give further information which adds coherently to the preceeding results and leads the author, after arguing, to seek the origin of these metalliferous differenciations in the sole pedological and sedimentary processes of concentration. ln no way does he use the hydrothermal hypothesis if not when he aims at confronting theories. The presence of the ore deposits may be justified by the sole geological conjunction of physico-chemical processes acting normally but only in the same way - i.e. to increase the heavy metals concentration - which depends on chance. Thus can be explained the idea of a geochemical anomaly which is understood in the usual meaning of the expression "mineral deposit".However, it seems more suitable to put into a synthetical shape the practical conclusions rather than to digress on these genetic questions. The paleogeography of the sous-cevenole mesozoïc series offers the frame of a metallogenic province defined by the association of three factual types of deposits : Red-Beds, Kupferschiefer, Tri-State. And, to conclude, rather than he should adopt this therminology the reader is invited to ponder over the methods of the metallogeny of such deposits." |
