The purpose of my dissertation is to describe how Italian immigrants, coming in successive. Waves to the French capital, became Parisians. This work takes into account the entire history of their immigration from the mid nineteenth century til the nineteen-sixties. Based on a monographic study of two neighbourhoods and two suburban townships of east of Paris, the immigrants integration is analysed from the stand point of a changing "Italo-Parisian territory", which we see come to existence and evolve over time. This territory can be perceived as the meeting-point of two societies : the immigrant society and the host society. The presentation of the welcoming environnement as well as the rythm of its social, political, and cultural transformations plays an important part in this tale of integration. The longlasting effects of the Parisian melting-pot are brought out here for until the great mutations. Of the sixties, Parisian neighbourhood life was not unlike that of the Italian migrants had at home. The chronological approach brings to light the breaks due to the two world wars and underlines the importance of the period between this was the time of the biggest Italian migration as well as of their mass absorption. This history overtime point out the after contradictory nature of their integration, which led a foreign group (here Italians), through rejection and exchange, conflict and cooperation inturn to finally vanish into the Parisian landscape.
