From Work to Frame in Intermedial References: Joseph Beuys in Three Contemporary German Poems

This article deals with about what happens in literary texts that refer to visual art works, that in the first place are not visual but rather conceptual and abstract. The conceptual work of the German artist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) is founded on a conceptual framework that can be summed up under the term “social sculpture”. It is our goal to research exactly how three German contemporary poets, Thomas Kling, Durs Grünbein and Ulrike Draesner approach this “social sculpture” in their poems.
