Moreover, it appears as an economic actor but it also exercises considerable influence on the political sphere. At the beginning of the Nineties, the Ert strongly influenced the Maastricht Treaty. Thereafter, it has adhered to a neoliberal vision of politics and the economy, shifting consequently its ideological orientation from Europeanism to globalism. Competitiveness and the attack on labour are the main aims of this organization. The new social consensus promoted by the Ert is based on efficiency and flexibility to the detriment of employment stability. The history of the Ert and the neoliberal turn characterizing its ideological orientation during the Nineties, represent a vantage point from which to understand the current attack on the European social model. The aim of this paper is, thus, to study the crisis of the model through the reconstruction of the history of the Ert and its ideological transitions. For this purpose, it resorts to the analysis of significant document produced by this organization.
