One usually speaks of a medium’s “experimental moment” as opposed to its “institutional stabilization”, but experimentation can continue once institutionalization is in place. This is Pierre Schaeffer’s hypothesis, which he developed within the RTF/ORTF Service de la Recherche. We can therefore speak of “experimented” rather than experimental television.
