With his contribution “Theatre architecture: a derivation of the primal cavity” to the Spring issue 1968 The Drama Review, psychanalyst Donald M. Kaplan offers crossed views between human body and space. He develops several interpretations on the relationship between performers and spectators, analyzing the role of each, aiming to suggest the optimal relationships in theatrical forms and formats to support this dialogue. Though the integral text is not here translated due to the coherence of this Horizons/Théâtre special issue, this unpublished French version proposes to share the author point of view, fifty years after his contribution.
