The aim of the conference was to examine a major trend in the contemporary English-language novel, namely the predominance of history and the past, particularly when accompanied by a form of self-reflexivity that characterizes the “neo-historical” (Rousselot). This issue of Études Britanniques Contemporaines brings together eight articles and an interview with novelist Lucy Caldwell on some aspects and modalities of the presence of the historical past in contemporary British literature and visual arts.
