What happened during those fateful days of October 1962 when the American and Soviet governments got involved in the most dangerous nuclear stalemate of the cold war ? Why did the member states of Nato decide to launch an air campaign against the Serb forces last March ? What was Pakistan looking for in its confrontation with India ? What aims are the Colombian guerrillas pursuing ? The analysts of international relations, the foreign policy advisor or the dissatisfied citizen have all the same interrogation on rational choice on a daily basis. After having tried, in the last issue, to make a critical overview of the debates related to the theory of rational choice, Cultures & Conflitspresents, in this issue, a set of analyses of empirical situations that illustrate the limits of the rational choice model. They are an incentive to recognise the complexity of international relations.
