Studying the gestures of a player during a match, before or after winning a point, after an adversary’s double faut or after a final winning point, can reveal that social symbolism by other than traditional methods. Sports reveal intense manifestations of emotions and how is one to account for the different modes of these emotional manifestations in relation to the stages of a match? Tennis, table tennis, field tennis, badminton and volleyball serve as our research terrain. We explain the development followed in constructing a methodological tool for data collection called the ludogram. La pratique d’un sport n’est pas anodine, elle est le fruit d’une représentation symbolique de celui-ci. Etudier les gestes d’un joueur au cours d’un match, après le gain ou la perte d’un point, après une double faute de l’adversaire ou une frappe gagnante, peut mettre au jour cette symbolique sociale autrement que par les méthodes traditionnelles. Le sport révèle une intense manifestation d’émotions. Comment rendre compte des différents modes de leur expression en fonction du déroulement du match ? Le tennis, le tennis de table, la courte paume, le badminton et le volley nous servent de révélateur. Nous expliquons les cheminements dans l’élaboration de l’outil méthodologique appelé ludogramme.
