Finalement, tout cela conduira à la dissolution de la Société en 1934. In 1920 the Società Magna Grecia was founded by Umberto Zanotti Bianco, a social activist, and the well-known archaeologist Paolo Orsi. This autonomous Società financed archaeological projects in Magna Graecia with private money. The antifascist position of Zanotti Bianco, who directed the Società, created tension with the fascist regime. Moreover, the growing success of the Società, most notably the discovery of the Heraion at Foce del Sele, was perceived as a threat for the cult of romanità. This would eventually lead to the dissolution of the Società in 1934.
