The correlation between, on the one hand, archaeological cultures and, on the other hand, the bantu languages expansion phenomenon has generated heated debates. To promote the integration of archaeology and linguistics, keeping a tight control on the data we have chosen to limit temporal and spatial framework of our field of investigation to south central Africa during the last millennia. Methodological integration is achieved thanks to the analysis of pottery traditions used as an interface between disciplines and between the present and the past. In this paper, we examine the distribution of pottery building techniques (roughing-out stage) in Katanga (Democratic Republic of Congo). The existence of three great technical provinces is correlated to diverse form of social identity. The role of famous regional political entities in the formation of social spaces is considered.
