The cat can be envisaged as belonging to the therapeutic framework, or Winnicottian environment, or even as a mirror of narcissistic well-being. Yet at other moments, the cat is a libidinal object, person or ‘erotic toy.’ Does the animal then run the risk of being caught up in the dichotomy opposing bad human beings/ good animals, thus depriving it of its beneficial value? These questions will be explored from the perspective of a clinical case with a female patient.Cairn free access |
