A Hundred Years of History in the Relations between French Psychoanalysts and Psychiatrists A late-comer to France, psychoanalysis, during the first half of the twentieth century, without for as much being ignored, only concerned a restricted group of psychiatrists and psychoanalysts. It was only some years later that, benefiting from the great revival in the wake of the Second World War, psychoanalysis really took hold, as representing the stronghold of the psycho-dynamic positions of psychiatry, and as such became a main cause of agreement and dissension. This article looks at what psychiatrists expect from psychoanalysis and in what ways psychoanalysts can intervene in the domain of psychiatry.Cairn free access |
