Shrnutí:A cancer diagnosis represents a major biographical disruption, especially when the disease occurs at a young age. For individuals diagnosed before the age of forty, it often creates a rupture with the milestones that structure the social timelines of adulthood, including access to parenthood. In response to this, political measures and medical recommendations have been established over the past two decades to better preserve the fertility of individuals undergoing potentially sterilising treatments. The expansion of these measures raises questions about their impact on the life trajectories of affected people. Based on empirical data from two complementary qualitative studies conducted in France between 2018 and 2023 on fertility preservation and access to parenthood after cancer, this article shows the paradoxical consequences of fertility preservation policies on the life paths of some former patients. Rather than normalising these trajectories, these policies often reshape them in unexpected ways, navigating between a reinforcement of reproductive norms, shifts in parental projects, misalignments, and an extension of reproductive timelines.
