Riassunto:This article focuses on the ways in which the experiences of migration, for Romani women who move from Romania to France in a context of intense precariousness, can transform intimate organisations within couples and families. It is based on an ethnographic study carried out in 2018 with Roma migrants from Romania living in two slums in Seine-Saint-Denis (near Paris), which focused on everyday life in an uncertain context. Residential vulnerability and economic insecurity lead to a context of urgency and interactions with social-aid organisations, which can be the basis for renegotiating the family and marital order. Women can become the family mediators with institutions and associations, or the main providers of economic resources for their family. However, these new arrangements do not decisively shake up the gendered division of domestic labour and a strong asymmetry within couples in domestic and care responsibilities remains.
