要約:The onset of a mental disorder for one of the siblings intensifies the uncertainty that families face in creating viable living conditions and shaping family destinies. How are siblings’ roles, feelings, and bonds transformed in such a context? To address this question, this article examines the social experience of mental disorders. This social experience is embedded in the long history of sibling and family configurations and unfolds within family relationships marked by class, gender and age hierarchies. It also disrupts the roles that each person occupies within the family. Siblings’e trajectories are impacted yet not “broken”. Despite their variety, these trajectories remain influenced by class and gender positions and are shaped by family interventions aimed at mitigating the uncertainties of family continuity. This article is based on an analysis of two cases encountered during an ethnographic survey conducted between 2011 and 2014 in various health and social care institutions, which included family monographs.
