A tribute to philosopher Jean-François Mattéi, who suddenly passed away in March 2014, this paper intends to identify the impetus for his work, in which repetition and return have pride of place: the repetition of the question of being, the wanderings of the philosopher’s soul, modelled after the ascent and descent depicted by the Platonist myth of the Cave. Such a theme has a mythical origin: according to Mattéi, Ulysses indeed seems to be the archetype of the philosopher, and the Odyssey the model for philosophy. Cairn free access |
