The emergence of bioethics Looking back at the emergence of bioethics, four periods can be distinguished. First (during the sixties), an indignation stage, following the disclosure of scandalous misconducts in biomedical research. Then comes a period of institutionalization, where the first national and international regulation institutions were born. We are now in a stage of implementation, trying to put into practice the rules that were thus brought out. This collectively attempted normalization does not eliminate the pluralism of the ultimate ethical references, but it shows both a rejection of nihilism and an almost consensual agreement concerning a number of great principles.Cairn free access
