The feeling of the uncanny and the feeling of being a stranger are feelings that, in my opinion, reveal the singular difference in the relationship to the world adopted by Freud and Jung; a difference that Jung felt the need to explore and name in his study of "psychological types" in order to better understand the unfortunate outcome of his relationship with Freud, that paternal figure in whom he had found "the first really important personality" he had encountered until that point, "extraordinarily intelligent, penetrating, remarkable in every respect". In this text, I will first discuss the "feeling of being a stranger" that Jung experienced from childhood, a feeling that he associated with his "personality number two," that of his inner world, to which he gave a predominant place until the end of his life. I will then turn to the question of the "feeling of the uncanny" that Freud experienced in a difficult way in, among other places, a small town in Italy, under the mocking gaze of two prostitutes. After describing the characteristics that Freud attributed to this experience, I will try to show that it may have originated in his relationship with the feminine world, a relationship that was the complete opposite of that of Jung, for whom the projection of the feminine soul/anima onto a beloved woman, followed by the withdrawal of this projection with the mourning that such a withdrawal requires, proved to be the indispensable condition for a man of profound self-knowledge. And vice versa for the woman, with regard to the projection/withdrawal of her masculine soul/animus onto a beloved man. In the "Conclusions" at the end of my text, I put forward a few hypotheses based on the above considerations regarding these crucial experiences of Freud and Jung. Personal experiences from which emerged a series of theoretical concepts that have become collective tools for understanding the human soul on both sides. Freud and Jung, whom I am inclined to call the “father” and “son” of the first psychoanalytic family, whose heirs, as Cain and Abel as we are, would greatly benefit from rekindling a lively dialogue under the benevolent leadership of a Feminine that the poet Louis Aragon prophesied would be “the future of man”. |

Freud and Jung, whom I am inclined to call the “father” and “son” of the first psychoanalytic family, whose heirs, as Cain and Abel as we are, would greatly benefit from rekindling a lively dialogue under the benevolent leadership of a Feminine that the poet Louis Aragon prophesied would be “the future of man”.En mi opinión, el sentimiento de inquietante extrañeza y el sentimiento de ser un extraño revelan la singular diferencia entre la relación de Freud y Jung con el mundo. Cairn restricted access |
