| Sumari: | As a former student of philosophy, Robert Musil kept measuring himself against philosophy and its specific challenges. If he uncompromisingly criticizes the esprit de système , conceptual abstraction, and nebulous speculations, his essayistic and novelistic project remains nevertheless driven by philosophical ambitions.
