L’archéologie, les sources archivistiques et littéraires ainsi que l’iconographie témoignent du fait que la ceinture est à la fois accessoire fonctionnel, accessoire de mode et objet signifiant. Il est possible au moyen de ces sources de caractériser des ceintures typiquement féminines. L’article en propose une typologie et une anthropologie dans le contexte provençal tout en restant ouvert à un contexte plus général.From the second half of the thirteenth century onward, archaeological findings of metal belt components and belt types reached a variety not seen since Merovingian times. Archaeology, archival and literary sources, and iconography bear witness to the fact that the belt is a functional accessory, a fashion accessory, and a signifying object. These sources can be used to characterize typically feminine belts. The article proposes a typology and an anthropology in the Provençal context, while remaining open to a more general context.Cairn restricted access
